In a way, I was "cavorting." It is dangerous -- often folly -- to extrapolate 47% sequential growth very far because achieving that rate requires qualitatively different execution at each point. That's not to say that it isn't possible in nascent markets, but there are simply too many variables, not the least of which is a new technology or standard emerges that undermines prospects.

OTOH, the sequential q to q growth model is exactly the rationale for internet company valuations. The key is sustainability, and that's just too hard to predict. I'd much rather take my chances with 3Com, where the possiblities we're discussing aren't even on the valuation radar screen -- this may change in six months when the PALM distribution occurs, and the emerging markets may comprise 12% of revenues.

Mr. Arya: Could you clarify one issue?

Mr. Arya, I have been open about my position in 3Com. This is my position on the whole situation: 1) I am long 3Com; 2) I am long 3Com, for the perceived value of 3Com & Palm; 3) I would not be long 3Com pans Palm; 4) I will sell 3Com immediately upon the Palm distribution to 3Com shareholders; 5) my perceived opinion, which is clearly displayed in the stock price prior to the Palm spinoff announcement, is that overall 3Com's management is looked upon as incompetent from the market's perspective; 6) I am long several competitors of 3Com - which have proven to be more successful in delivering earnings/revenues/shareholder value (I'm sure you can imagine their names); 7) I attempt to be objective in my analysis and don't simply attack those who don't agree with me; 8) simply am trying to make money in the market - as many others are; and 9) don't have any working relationship with 3Com.

Now since we disagree to a large degree on the competency of 3Com's management (everyone is entitled to their opinion & can invest their money where they feel most comfortable; and I hope that we can agree to disagree in a civil manner without personal attacks from you towards those who don't share your identical opinion), my question is do you have a working relationship with 3Com, or any relationship with 3Com employees or management? You, of course, don't have to answer this, but it would say volumes about your motives. I too speak my position, but your assault against those that disagree with you is most curious. Thanks, and I hope we can agree to disagree. We're both trying to make money! tia
