I am not comfortable in your labeling all homosexuals as "deviants" and proposing barring them from teaching (especially teaching math). I think we ought to hire anyone who can actually teach math, even if we had to put him in a cage to protect the children from assault.
You can see the trouble that Dr. Laura got herself in from describing homosexuals as "deviants."
I have to repeat that we recently convicted an army chaplain who is a priest of the Roman Catholic church for sexual assault on a 13 year old boy. This is the latest of many similar incidents throughout the world. Our bishop was accused of similar offenses, but the plaintiff was bought off. I am not prepared to label all RC priests as homosexual rapists, but the church despite its huge damages have been reluctant to clean homosexuals out of the priesthood. I think they are right to protect the homosexual priests' rights to their sexual orientation, but should concentrate on promoting consensual relationship in order to protect the kids. I think it would be a good idea for the church to open up to clean, healthy sexual relationships, even marriage, for priests. Homosexual marriage between priests is not likely to be permitted very soon, but it is already making headway among the Episcopalians. I believe the only way that the church can keep the priests hands' off of children is to open up normal sexual releases for both homosexual and heterosexual priests. Alternatively, they might try, as Paul suggested, castration on ordination.

I can only disagree with one point you made. I generally agree with nihil that homosexuals should be allowed to teach, so long as they never mention their sexual orientation to their students, and do not teach a subject relating to sexuality (math would seem to be safe). Sort of a dont ask/don't tell policy. Of course, any teacher with a history of child molestation should not be anywhere near children.

As for the priests, the Catholic Church should get with the program, and allow priests to marry. That way so many homosexual men would not be attracted to the priesthood. I recently read that the Church has paid former choir boys and such $1 billion in damages settlements; that's too much scandal for a Holy Order.

Prolife,

Our culture has got to make some legitimate space for homosexuals. Not encourage it but tolerate it within bounds in some moderate and sane, humane way. Some pre-Judeo-Christian cultures did--the Sioux Indians and other native peoples for example. There have always been "confirmed bachelors" on this planet. Dan Quayle is simply wrong, ignorant: the great majority of gay men are born the way they are--they don't choose it, any more than you chose to like girls when you were 14 (remember that?). They're here. Get used to it. The Log-Cabin guys show you can be both gay and Republican. It is grossly unfair to equate them to rapists, wife beaters and child molesters. And very mean-spirited, I must say, oh ye who follow Christ.

Yours in Christ,

Brian
