I agree. It would be just like the "flipping" frenzy of IPO's. Cash in on the easy money and then dump it. And can you imagine the complaints they would get from angry lottery losers?

Just look at COMS for a recent example. Stock ran up hard for the last month prior to the spinoff of PALM. Yet even though each COMS share will get about 1.5 PALM shares in 6 months or so, COMS sold off like crazy the minute PALM hit the ground running!

I will admit that since I am long CMGI, it is much easier to have this attitude. And those that may have just had a chance to buy in in the last month or so, and are truly in for the long-haul, do get the short end of the stick.

I do think it is the best thing for CMGI, whether or not I get allocated, but you can bet which way I am hoping!

Paul, after reading your words, I changed my opinion. Tis better to reward long-term holders than attract short-term speculators.
