CNN's Moneyline on Monday, March 13 referred to I2 as the "gorilla" of B2B

Well, we know that the financial media tend to use the word gorilla rather loosely. I get The Bull Market Report and the editor in chief, Todd Shaver, uses the term rather loosely as well. That's just the way it is.

I could make a strong case for i2's position as a gorilla within the supply chain management market. When you get into the matrix procurement market where business to business breathes and dwells - there are a combination of elements that factor into the business model of how revenues are derived. To say that Ariba, Commerce One and i2/Aspect (that feels funny typing that) all have the same revenue structure for their procurement would be false. I've covered this over on the eWorld thread if you search back many, many months ago. I've never ever studied Aspect - so I'm at a loss to even talk about how the synergy is going to work out.

I always assumed that consolidation would take place in the B2B space and we have been seeing a lot of alliances/partnerships and now we have our first big merger in the i2 - Aspect deal. The deal looks really good to me at the moment. We will have to, I will have to, present i2 now as a confirmed powerhouse in the B2B space which I feel should be judged on many of the elements in the Godzilla Game. This, of course, being viewed as a separate entity from their SCM solutions that companies like Dell use. Dell is a long time i2 customer and Tom Meredith, Dell's CFO, sits on the board of i2. We know that i2/Ariba/IBM are glued together now and that IBM is a customer of Aspect which i2 is buying. I haven't studied the details of the Dell - Ariba announcement that came out last night either. I'm just too darn busy at the moment with no end in sight.

Expect to see non stop announcements of customers signing up in the B2B industry. I'm glad the entire 'auto' thing is over as that was just one industry. There are many, many, many more to go and I don't think that every time an announcement is made that these stocks should zip up and down. I think you have to think longer term than that if you are investing in this space. I own i2, Ariba, ICGE and of course Siebel and Oracle in my 'basket'.
