I was working so I missed the comments. But I've always thought that the idea of letting people "own" genome information would be like letting a small number of companies own the internet. A few people would make a lot of money but the real potential would be lost. Did I miss something? Was it what was said or how it was said?

Frank,

Hi. I think 'Long on Fibre' put it best when he wrote....

This news was misinterpreted, taxman. They want to give away the Government research, and not that belonging to the genomics companies (although I'm quite surprised that Clinton did not say that those evil genomics companies, through hoarding their knowledge for capitalist purposes, were standing in the way of keeping The Children safe from disease.)
The Government's Human Genome Project is fraught with Gov't waste and is far behind private enterprise (surprise, surprise...). There's not much to give away. Typical touchy-feely bullshit (pardon my French).

Regards,

LoF
