See now, before tonight, I had no idea Franz Kafka inspired a school of economics, yet alone that someone out there is keeping it alive in the year 2000. <g> -JCJ

Re: The attack of Compaq, IBM, HP and Dell on the server space will ievitably reduce Sun's margins and rate of revenue growth. Defensive measures such as price cuts will just make things worse.

Phew! Now I know where you get your name. Without trying to
sound too optimistic, I would like to point out that Sun's
ONLY competitors in the server market continue to be HP &
IBM. You need to do more research into what makes a
company 'enterprise ready'. Dell & Compaq just don't have
what it takes to compete. HP does have the infrastructure
to compete with Sun, but not the hardware & software. IBM
is a direct competitor, and they will carve out a niche for themselves, but you have to understand that the server market has barely been tapped (5%). There's plenty of room for Sun & for IBM.

One more thing. These companies you named in your post didn't get to where they are because they are poorly managed or have lousy ideas. Until the day comes when the companies in the computer & telecomm industries start putting out inferior, unacceptable products and services, customers will continue to buy and the industry will continue to grow.
