Looks like Sun is getting revenge on IBM:

Sun Tops IDC Report in Midrange UNIX Server Market ... Again

Solaris-Based Server Shipments Outpace IBM by 202 Percent, HP by 18 Percent In Q4

Apparently Sun sold 8053 midrange UNIX systems during Q4 99. Anyone like to hazard a guess as to how many servers running NT were sold by Compaq.

Come on then, tell me how I'm comparing apples and oranges.

Steve,

I'm in software engineering and your anecdotal evidence
about Compaq doesn't account for anything.

Compaq is still struggling to incorporate Tandem & DEC.
They have some M&E but it's a task they were not prepared
for during the buyouts. That's why EF is history. Give
them a couple more years & we'll see what they can do.
Not yet, though.

NT is a non-issue WRT Solaris. It's not worth discussing
again.

Hasn't Windows NT been discontinued? I seem to recall seeing a Microsoft press release telling how awful and unreliable it was. I guess what you saw it doing a great job at wasn't very demanding.

JMHO.
