Anyone watch the Newshour on PBS tonight? Interesting roundtable between Gary Ross, chief executive officer at the PIRA Energy Group, an international energy consulting firm; Walter McCormick, Jr., president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations; Carl Pope, executive director of the Sierra Club; and Howard Metzenbaum, the former Ohio Senator who is now chairman of the Consumer Federation of America. Seems that low energy prices are every American's right.

Seriously, though, the oil industry is everyone's favorite punching bag (except here, of course), which makes me worry. I noticed that the Administration extended some sanctions against Iran in the last couple of days...this when relations are thawing, and the last thing that needs to happen is give the hardliners in Tehran an excuse to stop reform. Must be pretty serious about strong-arming OPEC into more production. And what about the proposals to stop foreign aid, or possibly trade sanctions against recalitrants (Mexico?)? Yikes. The boys on top are getting seriously worried. (About the upcoming elections?)

I doubt if OPEC wants to fall on its sword again, though, with or without American pressure. From all the pressure being applied, I'd guess that the news out of OPEC, for us OS investors is going to be good.
