Econnect in pact with Graycell for Unimobile Kavitha Rajasekhar Bangalore, March 15: Zee Telefilms' subsidiary Econnect India Ltd has entered into a tie-up with Graycell Inc to offer its mobile Internet access tool -- Unimobile -- on its portal www.zeenext.com. When contacted, Econnect officials did not want to comment on the nature and size of investment involved. An official announcement on the tie-up is expected shortly. Under the agreement, the Zeenext users will be able to download Unimobile to avail information including Zee and other news feeds and interactive services like instant messaging, e-mail, content, etc, on the mobile phone.According to sources, close to 1000 downloads of Unimobile through Zeenext.com have been facilitated during the ongoing soft launch phase. The portal's current e-mail subscriber base of close to 80,000 will also be able to access and use Unimobile services, they added. Incidentally, Unimobile positioned as a branded product for the global market is currently used in 91 countries supported by over 250 mobile telecom operators. Speaking on the business strategy, Econnect president Sunil Jasuja told The Financial Express that the company was looking at gaining a 20 per cent market share in the Internet access/portal market. An intensive strategy had been drawn up to substantiate its position and subscriber base by offering `unique and complete' services online, Jasuja said. Econnect, as part of the strategy, also recently entered into a content syndication tie-up with Cyber India Online Media for the IT news section.The portal was eyeing close to 12 million page views a month once all the planned services were in place and was expecting to reach break-even on its Rs 400 crore investments within the next four years, he said. On Graycell Inc's plans for Unimobile, the company's founder and chairman TS Rajesh said that the immediate plans were to expand and consolidate the market for Unimobile by strategic partnerships with Internet companies.According to Rajesh, the company had drawn up a strategy for aggressive marketing and partnerships with Internet portals, e-commerce companies, telecom operators and manufacturers in order to expand the domestic market. -Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
