Also, for most companies, downsizing and getting focused, usually helps the bottom line. Intel is still buying Internet companies; diversifying and trying to get out (Willy notwithstanding) of x-86 market. If Willy proves to be as great of a success as Itanium; Intel will be down to renting its office bldg. also.

There are not many things I prefer about Intel but in terms of diversification, Intel is years and miles ahead of AMD.

In a protracted chip war Intel has resources that AMD can only dream about. Check out Intel's financial statements.
