Mercedes weighs options to launch models from DaimlerChrysle stable

New Delhi, March 16: Mercedes Benz India Ltd is conducting a feasibility study to finalise models from the Daimler-Chrysler stable for launch in the Indian market. The company expects to decide its next offering by end of theyear. Among the models which are under study include the A-class, S-class,C-class, M-class, Grand Cherokee and Voyager models. "A final decision about the model and pricing would be taken only after analysing the study", MBIL managing director and CEO, Jurgen Ziegler told reporters at the launch of the new E-class car models here on Thursday.

In addition, the company would also study the feasibility of introducing the Mitsubishi range of vehicles in India once the proposed deal between the two firms is formalised.

"Though the M-class multi utility vehicles would fetch a good demand here, I feel the S-class already has a known brand value and so, would be among the first ones to be introduced in India next year,' Ziegler added. The company would take a decision on the launch after April 2001, once a clear pictureon the post-WTO scenario emerges. This year the company is concentrating on extending its E-class range. "As part of this thrust, we are launching the new E-class here, priced in the range of Rs 32 lakh.

Simultaneously, we willbe looking at segments both above and below the E-class', he said.

The existing E-class variant is being discontinued..



Telecruz to enter Indian market

Mumbai, March 16: California-based TeleCruz Technology Inc. a developer ofembedded products for interactive televisions is all set to make a foray into the Indian market. The company has tied up with a few Indian television and set-top box manufactureres. The official announcement about the Indian partners will be made sometime later this month.

In a telephonic conversation with The Financial Express from his San Jose head quarters, TeleCruz Technologies CEO, Kris Narayan said: "India has been identified as a key market for TeleCruz. We have ambitious plans forthe subcontinent which we will unveil officially by the end of this month." Yet another source at TeleCruz, on condition of anonymity, said: " We have entered into tie-ups with Indian television and set top box manufacturers.We are looking at a series of tie-ups with Indian TV manufacturers and ISPsover the next one year."....


Svedala plans to acquire local manufacturing unit

New Delhi, March 16: Swedish construction and mineral equipment manufacturer Svedala Industri AB plans to acquire another manufacturing company in India.

It has also decided to merge the recently acquired Mukand McNally Wellman with Svedala India. Svedala Industri AB executive vice-president Sven Ek told reporters that the proposed acquisition will be part of the company's plans to expand its operations and products in India through acquisition and amalgamation. "We are negotiating with a few companies and the discussions could end up in a few acquisitions or joint ventures", said Ek....

Bangalore, March 16: The Bangalore-based Shonkh Technologies Ltd has bagged a large order for optical memory card for vehicle registration from Gujarat government, according to the company's director (business development) Ravi Krishnamurthy.

As per the order, the company would initially deliver 5 million cards to the state government and 5 lakh cards each for 15 years at a cost of Rs 300 per unit.
