Of your two possibilities I vote for the "wrong guy" theory.

Actually been thinking along these lines for some now.

Stress leads to doing stupid things at times and it just could very well be that SJ did something that was not in character for her, which then ultimately led to the killing.

Whether that was meeting someone for a secret affair or for more data on her paper makes no difference at this point. Point being that it was out of character and a bad move.

So guess I just gave you back 2 possibilities.

1. Met someone for more data on her thesis.

2. Met up with wrong guy

Neither of which would be good guys so it has been discovered.
