Jim Re...<<<RE:"I don't buy it. Last year Intel kept huge price premiums on the top frequency, and prices tailed off spectacularly at 50 MHz less (where K6 showed up.)

I suspect that AMD will pummel Intel in the same way with the top 3 speed grades of Athlon." >>>>>>

Jim, isn't it possible that Elmer wasn't lying about all those Coppermines. Maybe there really is a surplus of lower mhz PIII except Intel is witholding a certain amount until Dresden because AMD is capacity limited and Intel can maximize income by creating a shortage; ala OPEC. Before Athlon' Intel made money on its monopoly. After Athlon, Intel can make money on shortages until Willy and then try to get market share back.

Jim, <Unless Intel can match Mhz with AMD, a price war will be one sided>

Judging from the low, low prices that Athlons are going for, I think the one-sided price war is currently going the other direction, Jim.

But hey, "demand is high, ramp is fine," right Jim? Funny how you were ridiculing that story ever since INTC was at 76 ... <VBG>
