I don't see any new ideas here. The idea of coercing the population into following the dictates of elite central planners is ancient. And any society that goes down that path ends wind up tragically.

Brian, your extreme position regarding automobiles has already been made clear. And it sounds to me like you've completely bought into this notion that cars are evil and trains are wonderful. Where is your evidence that heavily taxing gasoline will promote a cleaner environment and a better quality of life for most Americans? Taking more money from hard working Americans and putting it into your grand 50 year government choo-choo plan is hideous nonsense.

Americans of all economic stripes have voted with their pocketbooks. And they prefer the automobile. It's really as simple as that.

Cars are getting cleaner and cleaner burning every year. And America has one of the cleanest environments on planet earth, especially when compared to other industrial nations.

A nation never taxed itself into prosperity. Get a grip, and stop being envious of soccer moms staring down at you from their SUV's. One day that soccer mom might be your wife hauling your beautiful kids around.
