When the Irish refer to themselves, they ordinarily mean persons of Gaelic descent and Catholic religion. It is ironic, then, that most of their literary stars are not Irish. Nor has there ever been documented a propensity for conversion among the Gaelic population. But had there been, what matter? I do not believe that you would subscribe to the blarney in the blood theory. Protestants were essentially raised in a different cultural milieu than Catholics. Whatever the situation, it is more complex than listing a bunch of "Irish authors" that includes Swift, Wilde, and Shaw, and that was my only point........
