Brian, res-I am not pro-Al Gore or a Democrat! I am an independent, I guess

No, you just like Al Gore's environmental beliefs although you haven't even read his book about the environment. Further, you've bought into the sound-bite way of thinking which has perpetuated our society via the mainstream media that Republicans are against sound environmental policies.

I ask you. Where is your evidence for these beliefs? And what, if it was presented to you would allow you to change this belief?

The Democrats have controlled the Congress and the White House on numerous occasions in the last 45 years. The Republicans have never controlled both the Congress and the Presidency. Yet, you blame them for whatever evils you perceive are happening to our environment. How do you come to such a certain conclusion?

Did the Republicans force Americans to drive cars? Did Republicans build all the highways in America and destroy all your precious choo-choo trains? The answer, is of course they didn't. Americans of all stripes, rich and poor, black and white, Democrat and Republican fell in love with the automobile. So they bought them, and demanded that public funding go into road and bridge construction to support them. It's called Democracy Brian. Something your central planning concept fails to consider. People want to drive their car, they don't want you or the left wing environmental zealots to tax that freedom into oblivion.

In fifty years, when your grand choo-choo plan comes into fruition, cars will probably fly in the air and run on solar power causing virtually zero pollution.

By the way, Henry Ford didn't introduce marketing concepts in cars by changing colors. Alfred Sloan did.
