hi uw,

Is the OLED technology a threat to Cree's LED business. Do OLED's eliminate/reduce the need for LED background lighting? Thanks!

Could RMTR's FRAM fit any "less power" bills in this area?

I remain,

SOROS

ps keep in mind I am too old to be technologically astute -- I don't know all the uses for RMTR's technology, but I know there are a lot of them

pps I like owning the guy that supplies product for MULTIPLE areas -- much better to sell the atoms rather than the appples

ppps less power from RMTR will fit in BIG with all wireless companies -- NOK, ERICY, MOT, etc. etc. etc

pppps once RMTR's value is seen and taken by one of the biggies, I'll get my RAMBUS' stock move

ppppps RMTR will kick RMBS' butt

pppppps do you get the impression that I have a lot riding on RMTR?

<<lux.v and mvis...i believe both of these companies have significant design wins>>

Regarding MVIS: by design win do you mean the cooperative effort with Xybernaut for development of a wearable computer:

Message 13254969

They have a variety of entities evaluating beta units but I am not aware of a specific design being incorporated in any specific product.

MVIS

Unclewest you already owned them through CREE! I've been looking at them as well. Here is what I like about them:
assuming ever brighter light sources become available (high output leds and solidstate laser diodes) MVIS can actually shrink their device. This in turn makes it easier to mount and then cheaper to produce. Alternatively they can drive up the resolution but I think there are very few human interface apps that would require it.

You can not do this with OLED directly nor say something like Kopin's displays. I see the current display technologies as the weak link in the complete solution for portable devices with visual human interfaces ( the WAP phone displays are a joke for email). I'm trying to formulate in my mind whether this is the discontinuous innovation that will enable practical portable devices. I leaning to the affirmative, but it is hard to assess because there is so much activity in the display area at the moment.

It appears they may indeed have proprietary control on their architecture. From the conference call it seems that they intend to license at least some of the high volume applications to third parties. To me that infers that the architecture may become quasi open.

Clearly the value chain is just starting to build (predominantly defense but starting positions in Medical)but should become more visible over the next 12-18 months.

The other thing I like is that the technology can be extended to other completely different apps such as printing. (The latest conf call was instructional).

What are your thoughts?

FATBOY

PS Frank, sorry for cluttering the thread but I posted here since I think MVIS may just have the right genes even if it is too early to tell.

Thanks Uncle West, I will look closer into these three. I am familiar with PANL and MVIS but not LUX.v. Perhaps a hunt report will emerge....

I am new to this thread, and so far have very much enjoyed the engaging and cooperative exchange among the participants. I hope to be of service in the future, meanwhile I need to get back to reading the last few chapters in the manual. ggg

I would encourage also like to add to recent requests that the thread look into fuel cells. This is a truly revolutionary technology in every sense of the word. Imagine replacing every combustible power supply with a clean-burning, RENEWABLE, fuel cell.

BLDP has the lead in auto application with substantial backing from Daimler-Chrysler and Ford, among many others. PLUG for stationary power generation in cooperation with GE power systems. Rocky Mountain Institute has tons of DD on this technology if anyone is interested.

Disclosure: long on PLUG since 16. I put those shares away with my ELON at 13. They are keeping each other company.
