Really impressive considering that the IEEE802.3ae working
group has not even finished the specification and won't for
some time. Tis more dubious PR--hype and hope.

Hi tg - while I think CSCO will remain making significant efforts in securing its own backyard, this is a very interesting - and yes, exciting - development.

My take is from a business and not technical perspective. Indeed, technologies come and go. However, the fact that Utfors's partnership with Nortel is an extension of what you said yesterday. NT has become a magnet for innovative firms. The following paragraph [itlatic and boldface are mine]

Nortel Networks' optical Ethernet portfolio leverages the company's global market leadership in optical networking, and in development of the emerging IEEE 10-Gigabit Ethernet standard.

A standard is an agreement whereby the dominant force prevails.
