PSIX target for Deutsche Telcom or any similar Overseas Telcom company trying to get a foothold in US Getting interesting !!!messages.yahoo.com 03/22/2000: PSI Net To Buy Metamore World Wide SUSIE GHARIB: The Internet is still the big reason behind so many big ticket mergers these days, the latest deal today almost $2 billion deal. PSINet (PSIX), the Web access provider, is buying Metamor Worldwide (MMWW). Stephanie Woods talked with the CEOs of both companies to find out how the pieces will fit. STEPHANIE WOODS, NIGHTLY BUSINESS REPORT CORRESPONDENT: PSINet specializes in handling Internet traffic. Metamor helps businesses design Internet applications. The CEOs say the combination means giving customers more of what they want. WILLIAM SCHRADER, CEO & FOUNDER, PSINET: By doing this merger we add more customers, more content to flow over the network, more revenue. WOODS: For Metamor, the deal gives it access to an Internet network without having to build its own. PETER DAMERIS, PRESIDENT & CEO, METAMOR WORLDWIDE: The hosting centers that PSINet built, are building across the world are a huge capital expensive. So for us to have a competitive environment, supercomputing environment, it would have taken us the billions of dollars that Billîs company has spent. WOODS: Shares of Metamor more than doubled on the news. PSINet shares fell 16 percent. Analysts say the deal makes PSINet an attractive asset for a global telecommunications carrier. There is talk that perhaps Deutsche Telekom (DT), which recently tried to buy QWest (Q), may look at PSINet instead. JOSEPH ESHOO, ANALYST, A.G. EDWARDS: Most large telecom players outside of the United States have very small Internet assets and predominantly they are located in the country that they operate. So if you really wanted to become a global player, you would have to look towards the United States to acquire a company such as PSINet. WOODS: PSINet's Schrader says he hasnît turned down any offers and he says any suitor would have to pay a premium for the future value of his network.
