KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Chiefs on Monday agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent punter Todd Sauerbrun, who spent the first five years of his career with the Chicago Bears.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Sauerbrun recovered from a torn ACL suffered in 1998 and averaged 40.9 yards on punts and dropped 20 inside the 20-yard line last season. In 66 career games with the Bears, Sauerbrun averaged 42.2 yards per punt, including 83 inside the 20 with just 42 touchbacks.

In Kansas City, Sauerbrun will compete with Daniel Pope for the punting job. As a rookie, Pope averaged 41.8 yards on punts, but had two blocked.

Sauerbrun, 27, was selected in the second round of the 1995 draft out of West Virginia after he broke Reggie Roby's NCAA record with a 46.2-yard punting average.

Ouch!
