I too hold a smidgen of ONT for long term. I am learning, by reading the Gorilla Game, that the internet supply chain is driven largely by affiliations with the Gorilla of the chain. In this case customers will rally around and latch onto technologies that augment the existing leader, in this case MSFT. If MSFT launches a competing broadband technology it will stand a better chance at being the standard because of it's tight bindings to the perceived leader MSFT. It's sad because MSFT can win at the game without having the best technology. It's a risky game hoping that your company will get bought out by MSFT because you have a better tool. Often you will be left to whither on the vine. MSFT maintains their edge by being able to keep competitors on their heels, they can do this by tweaking IE, causing competitors to have to devote resources to keeping up their compatibility while MSFT moves forward and closes the technology lead gap.
