Rambus Requests the U.S. International Trade Commission To Investigate Unlawful Imports by Hitachi and
Sega
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2000--Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS - news)
today announced it is requesting the U.S. International Trade Commission (``ITC') to conduct an
investigation, pursuant to section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, and to remedy the unlawful importation
into the United States and the sale in the United States after importation, of Hitachi and Sega products,
covered by U.S. patents Nos. 6,034,918 and 6,038,195 which are owned by Rambus.

Rambus' ``337 Complaint', names Hitachi, Ltd.; Hitachi Semiconductor (America), Inc.; Sega Enterprises,
Ltd. and Sega of America, Inc. The complaint requests that the ITC investigate Hitachi SDRAM and DDR
SDRAM memory products, certain Hitachi SH series microprocessors as well as Sega© Dreamcast(TM)
game consoles which incorporate Hitachi SH series microprocessors. Rambus is seeking to halt the
importation and sale of the infringing Hitachi memory and microprocessor products and Sega Dreamcast
game consoles.

On January 18, 2000, Rambus filed a patent infringement suit against Hitachi, Ltd. and Hitachi
Semiconductor (America), Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, based on four
patents covering SDRAM and DDR SDRAM memory products and the SH microprocessors that directly
interface with them. On February 29, 2000, Rambus filed a second patent infringement suit in Delaware
involving two additional U.S. patents that cover Hitachi DDR SDRAMs and certain SH microprocessors. A
total of eight patents are currently involved in the ITC and Federal District Court proceedings.
