Here is an article on Cisco vs Nortel and Lucent. Repeats estimate of 69% growth for optics in 2000 vs 15% growth for hubs, switches and routers.

UF,
John Chambers and his team are beyond measure when it comes to management and integration. The reality is that this area is ramping like hell and m&a are going as fast. Cisco has made an art of buying smaller companies and integrating them into the system. Can they do the same in the optical side of the business a good question. I would suggest that they will need to acquire several companies of size to achieve this. Pirelli alone will not give them the scale they need. LU, NT and companies like JDSU are moving so fast in this space that Cisco may be behind the curve on this one. Could you expand on your thoughts when you say that they have a grip on the sector that will allow them to make a successful transition to the optical network. I by no means am a Cisco expert and would welcome your views.

I have read the Gorilla Game and find the subject very interesting.

Thank in advance
Glenn
