I find it difficult to believe that you have followed the actual discussion, but what the heck........

By the way, it has been years since I have been in a restaurant with a nursing mother, and more years since I have seen someone who insisted upon being indiscreet. It ordinarily is not a problem, and thus is mostly a theoretical discussion........

When I posted, I had not yet read your posting. I simply responded to what appeared in my inbox. I think that you are expressing the "discrepancy" a little strongly. I don't hear any "outrage" about feeding one's child in public, merely a question of an attempt at discretion when possible. Perhaps I am giving too much credit, but I think that Neocon, JLA, et al. in a situation such as you describe--a screaming baby and leaking breasts--would be among the first to recognize the necessity of nursing the child ASAP and damn the surroundings! I think that we are dealing with those times that are not as urgent and when it is possible to be less public.

Yes, I am Pro-Choice, Pro-Neonate...and I find it puzzling, as well as disquieting...as you stated,

"The discrepancy between believing it's perfectly acceptable, yea, even morally righteous, to insist on the rights of a fetus to be brought to term regardless of the
mother's desire, and yet become outraged over the feeding of this same infant where they might have to (oh no!) be exposed to it-- well, it leaves me amazed."
