OT: mtnlady,

Since fiber optic is your proclaimed area of interest, I would be interested in your opinion on Marconi, PLC (the spin-off of Bristish defense giant GEC). They have had some very nice contract wins here in the states and are rumoured to be going for a U.S. listing 2nd or 3rd quarter.

Have held the ADR's since the spin-off and am always interested in others opinions who are knowledgable about the optics game. TIA,

-dave

mtnlady: My predecessor namesake chaz is the controlling authority on Project Hunt reports. So he will be the one to decide how best to proceed to benefit the thread.

I do have a suggestion to try to make the task more manageable and to fit your primary area of interest.

A strong focus on NT's fiberoptic system supply could be a more practical place to start. That would be particularly so if you were able to put that in context of other participants in that area to put NT's place in perspective.

This would also fit what I at least sense is a strong interest on this thread.

You are of course quite correct that trying to analyze NT as a whole is a daunting task. Perhaps a key area is a more reasonable starting point.

Again just a suggestion.

Best.

Cha2

This, not to deprecate your abilities, may be more than you should gnaw...I don't want a Project Leader to get "bogged down" in the process. We all have a tendency to look at the whole mountain and pronounce it insurmountable, when if taken by stages it's quite another thing to gain a summit.
That may sound trite, contrived even, but from what you describe (and keep in mind, I know nothing of NT) it seems possible to carve it up, into technologies, and then take each at a time.

Perhaps, another one or two threadmates should assist in this.

NT may be too important not to fully understand...that's why I'm pressing the gang on this, not just you.

Let's face the possibility that CSCO may just be under attack from below by a very worthy competitor. The questions abound: Are there discontinuities here, are they protected by patents or by early mover syndrome, is this hardware or software, or both...and so on. Looking just at the charts, NT is the 12-month winner, CSCO No 2, and LU looks (to stock buyers) like an on again-off again player.

This doesn't strike me as so simple as EMC-NTAP...(excuse me, Jerry...but you made it look like a cake walk)...but it may be (is already) far more important in terms of total spending by industry, which makes it all the more important that we grasp it.
