Gary, unless you are talking about Enterprises calling internally within their own multinational offices, you still need a local IP POP to deliver the call through the local PSTN service provider (PTT in almost all cases).

Regarding your last comment, CSCO has respect in the Enterprise space -- I wouldn't deny that. I was talking about the Carrier equipment for the public network infrastructure............not routers for the Carriers.

The reality is that most Carriers and PTT's consider CSCO for what they are - box vendor. I agree some of it may be old-world prejudice but if you talk to any PTT/Carrier players, they will tell you that CSCO doesn't have lot of respect when compared to NT, LU, ERICY in the Carrier space. This is not MY opinion but what I hear when I go to conferences and tradeshows where the PTT's gather.

This negative perception will only change with Time and Proven Expertise which CSCO needs to demonstrate. Not saying it can't happen but it won't be easy, it won't be overnight and it won't be CHEAP.

Finally, there are issues with IP telephony - no doubt - as there were with circuit switched telephony (and still are
today

Gary, one of the issues with IP telephony appears to be whether the Selsius (sp/?) IP telephony products works with other IP telephony products. I read an article this weekend stating that Selsius does not work with other IP telephony products. I will locate at this evening and post the link.
