$50 for 500 minutes is passe. Sprint offering 2,000 minutes (half off peak) for $75. That's 3.75 cents a minute. That is a lot of minutes for non-business user and at point it makes good sense to no longer have a wire phone at home, except for internet access.

London: Agree. The people who yawn about having to either pay for unwanted calls or wasting their "minutes", perhaps misunderstand the fear that Joe Sixpack (and particularly his wife) have of bills being run up against them on their wireless phone because some boiler room calling system (or worse) has them targeted with an automatic computer driven sales pitch. So they keep their phones turned off.

That many phones are turned off makes the use of wireless much less useful and efficient.

The business users and salesmen on an expense account couldn't care less. But people who are struggling to make ends meet on a modest income, do.

Again, I ask, what is the downside of permitting "caller pays"? Let's suppose all the naysayers are right and it does little good, what is the harm?

And those of us who have travelled outside the US know that caller pays has been a major force in the rapid adoption of cellular wireless. Sure the US is different, but how different?

Why not join the custom of the rest of the world.

Roaming would be easier and simpler.

Best.

Chaz

PS The system now is "person called pays", what is the advantage of that to anyone? Having the person placing the call pay (or use the minutes they have) is much fairer.
