Paul and everyone:
I just want to thank the thread populace for making what is IMHO the best thread on SI.
We have a very good support group here, we discuss our picks with civility, and there is very little BS.
Thanks to all,
Wallace

Adding to my position in gold (HM) today - with rising commodity prices and accelerating inflation expectations, I don't for the life of me know what an unhedged gold stock is doing at a 52 week low. Yeah, I know the price of gold is down at lows too, but I think of HM as an option on a move in the price of gold without a whole lot of downside risk. Also a stock that is likely to go up if the stock market really takes a hit. If it paid a bigger dividend it would be the perfect bear investment, but its close.

I would not qualify myself as a value investor. I.e.
I don't buy commodity businesses, not counting REITs.
I just don't like commodities. ;-) (REITs are
different - 12-20% yield in IRA is not bad). I don't do
solid numerical DD to be convinced that a commodity
business is a buy and a hold through fluctuations.
I don't have a problem holding companies like
MAT, even though Mike Burry ran away from it, and
it *did* deteriorate a bit after my purchase, but
I would be running out of EBSC by now.
That's my character.

So what do I buy? My 401(k) is in insane growth
(IGRYX and company stock). My stock portfolio is
Buffett'y (BRK, ECIL, FDC, LHO, MAT, SGP, TSG).
My gambling is satisfied with one-two options positions.
For the "value" part of my portfolio I hold TAVFX.
Marty is good at buying cigar butts and even
persuading managements to get them sold in used
cigar stores. ;-) If I went with total "value"
approach, I would buy TAVFX and Tweedy Browne, and
forget about doing it myself. But I have fun
investing - and *not* superior return. ;-) :-(((

So probably I should post only in Buffetology thread
which is closer to my liking. However, some of my
stocks and potential buys are discussed here, so
I post here too.

Cheers

Jurgis
