The new State Quarters and Dollar coin will get the "quantity" of new collectors up, but one must also be concerned about the "quality" of the new collectors. Many have become speculators in the new quarters, selling them quickly on ebay, not collecting. We have to get them to buy the good stuff and hold it long-term.

Also, it can be difficult to move these folks into gold and silver and really rare coins. I am more optimistic about numismatics than I have been for many years. It is definitely a good opportunity for the hobby and business.

"Apocalyptic expectations are unnecessary to project a dollar gold price that includes four digits. It will require only the inevitable unwinding of bearish producer and dealer hedge structures amidst a change of market perceptions on the desirability of financial assets." --John Hathaway/Toqueville Asset Management
