Non-volatile memory with improved sensing and method therefor
Abstract

Floating gate memories such as EEPROM and flash EEPROM have the memory state of a memory cell thereof determined by sensing the conduction current of the cell. Inherent noise fluctuations in the conduction current during sensing are canceled out by averaging the sensing over a predetermined period of time. In one embodiment, as an integral part of the averaging process, the averaged conduction current is obtained directly as a digital memory state. Accuracy in sensing is therefore greatly improved by avoiding sensing noise with the current and avoiding having to resolve its memory state in the analog domain by comparison with another noisy reference current. In another embodiment, conventional sensing techniques are improved when sensing is made by comparison with a reference current by means of a symmetric, switched or non-switched capacitor differential amplifier. The improved sensing accuracy allows higher resolution of conduction states, thereby allowing a cell to store substantially more than one bit of information.

"But it uses Memory Stick (which locks you into Sony products) as opposed to CompactFlash or Smart Media cards, commonly found in digital cameras. Memory Stick is more expensive per byte, but it fits an ever-expanding array of Sony products. If your home looks like it came out of the pages of Sony Style, you're all set. I'm not a fan of Memory Stick. I don't think the world needed a late-entry, third standard. And it offers no discernible benefits over the other memory technologies."

"Texas Pacific Group to invest at least $300 million in Gemplus
Fort Worth-based Texas Pacific Group will invest between $300 million and $500 million in one of the world's largest smart card vendors, Gemenos, France-based Gemplus SCA. Texas Pacific, a private investment firm with $7 billion in assets, will become one of the major shareholders in Gemplus, but the two companies did not disclose its precise share of Gemplus equity. Gemplus will use the new capital to expand in such areas as electronic commerce, wireless communications and computer network security, says Chairman Marc Lassus, who told Card Technology last week that he had attracted a major U.S. investor. The infusion of capital ensures Gemplus' survival at a time when the smart card industry is poised for rapid growth and consolidation, says Henry Dreifus, CEO of Longwood, FL-based Drefus Associates. "It gets them to the kind of scale they're going to need to have long-term success." (1/26)

Here is the filing for Lexar.

Aus is not going to be real happy when he reads the main caption at the top of the prospectus. "The Big Picture" is the described in the artwork. It would seem that the brass at Lexar is reading and taking note of the posts here on the thread. I hate to say it , but, at least the ideas on this community are not falling on deaf ears. It's unfortunate that the combined talent available on this thread is not being funneled into the(our)company for perusal, and serious speculation.

Best to you all.
Took advantage of this buying opportunity.
