Taiwan Hot Stock: Taiwan Semicon +2.5% On Price Hike
TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM), the world's largest dedicated chip foundry, were up N$5.00, or 2.5%, at NT$209.00 (US$1=NT$30.425) at 0234 GMT Thursday (9:34 p.m. EST Wednesday) on volume of 25.6 million shares, as the company plans to raise foundry prices for chips.
The big board was up 2.3%.

Sentiment in TSMC is also being lifted by expectations that the industry's uptrend will continue into 2001.

The stock has lagged behind the big board as investors mainly focused on dynamic random access memory chip makers and Internet issues.
