Photopoint.com is hot!, hot!!, hot!!!

From Steves-digicams website...

Another Picture-Perfect Month for PhotoPoint.com

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--March 30, 2000
Solidifying its position as the world's largest free photo-sharing Web site, PhotoPoint.com today announced record-breaking figures from Media Metrix Inc.

Already a Media Metrix top 500 Digital Media Website, PhotoPoint attracted 1,453,000 unique visitors in February (most recent data), increasing its traffic by 41 percent since December, and making it the most-visited photo-sharing Web site in existence.

Benefiting from the explosive growth of digital photography and an enthusiastic market looking to the Internet to share, distribute and view photos online, PhotoPoint now hosts more than 8 million photos and receives more than 60,000 new photos per day for posting.

The latest data from Media Metrix also ranks PhotoPoint.com (in terms of unique visitors) ahead of some of the Web's most recognizable brand names and Fortune 500 companies, a remarkable accomplishment since PhotoPoint is less than 2 years old. These include Bank of America, ameritrade.com, etoys.com, hotjobs.com, playboy.com and staples.com.

I hate to say this, but...

I TOLD YOU SO!!!

As a matter of fact...

Not so very long ago when Photopoint was young and struggling I asked if they wouldn't contact SNDK to solicit some banner advertising. I don't think SNDK marketing ever bit on that offer.

This is a fantastic site and would have been a great place for SNDK to invest either in the way of advertising or by financial support similar to their involvement in SMDK prior to its IPO. Now the advertising costs are going to go way up!!! Think of all the eyeballs going to that site and all the family members directed there to visit albums.

Another lost opportunity, I am afraid.

very OT: I visited the Panda cam. Saw baby climbing a tree, but couldn't spot the cam. Had no idea the panda area was such a standout and popular attraction - and this at a zoo that has so many wonderful plants/animals. Our family thought the Hippo was the highlight - that big gal came over to the visitors arena and was bouncing around doing hand-stands (paw stands?) underwater and then standing full upright on her hinders underwater looking at us(on the other side of the pane of glass) -- it was quite a show for us (maybe for her too -g-)
