Tinker,

You obviously have more than a perspective to offer, and there are some who would no doubt like to explore the possibility of finding companies with some Simian traits in different sectors like Biotech. Why not consider creating a sister thread to cover the biotech industry? That way, those interested can still feel free to discuss these companies while respecting the ideals of this thread, and keeping it focused. You will no doubt continue to contribute here as you find necessary.

As you might know, this has already been done before, with others creating 2 threads to cover the Godzillas like Cmgi, Sfe, Icge, Itwo, etc, and also to discuss options on gorillas and kings.

As it is becoming more obvious everyday, GG investing is a bit more complicated, or shall I say it requires more indulgence than initially meets the eye. Additionally, the high tech field (telcos, software, networking, storage, etc) is big enough to merit the complete attention of this thread. Hopefully this thread will continue to be productive in this field.

JMHO. Back to lurking now.

MA.

Tinker,

Thank you for your open mind about the issue of thread content we have discussing. I thank you not just for myself but also for the nearly 30 authors of the PMs who have contacted me about this issue.

Moving onto a separate subject and putting everything behind us ...

Possibly the wireless data Gorilla will not be Q but Wi-lan.

I don't know anything about Wi-lan, but I would like to go on record so no one accidentally misunderstands that I have never had any thoughts that Q would be the wireless Gorilla. Sure that would be nice if it happens. But my investment in Q is based only on my opinion that it is the CDMA Gorilla, far different in scope from being the wireless Gorilla.

Tinker: Wi-lan is an interesting case. The technology does show possibilities as does the similar approach of Cisco.

Mike has always been specific in characterizing Qualcomm as a CDMA gorilla, with the proviso that it might become the "wireless" gorilla but is not there yet.

I suggest that a discussion of Qualcomm as a wireless gorilla candidate, for wireless broadly defined, would be interesting, since I see its situation with regard to data and the wireless / internet (intranet) nexus as paramount. But we will not really be sure about this until next year IMO. So I would say that Qualcomm is a gorilla in CDMA as Mike does, but add that seems to me that it is a gorilla candidate for wireless more broadly defined.

Wi-lan has enough possibilities that I have tried to follow it as closely as I can, but that is difficult.

I would appreciate a discussion of Wi-lan in the context of wireless broadly and in relation to Qualcomm specifically.

Look forward to discussing this area with you if you wish.

Best.
