Leigh: From your post....
<<Our focus is on things that enable Internet infrastructure. We can't do everything, and this gives the ability to have a broad reach," Dell said, noting that his company receives about 1,000 business plans a week from capital seekers.>>>>
When one looks at the overall Web effort then things are just getting started.
During the past year many very large companies are seeing the value of cooperation thru the Web and computing power.
wttp://biz.yahoo.com/rf/000331/uh.html
Software to make one companys computers work with a
different brand or language, or more simply buy all Dells
for the replacement cycles.(G)
Search engines like FAST, to search the on-line law libraries for precedent setting cases. Or insert medical symptoms to find most likely problem. Track down White house E-mails, or find a good used car. ( a rather scarce item)
The opportunities here are awesome, and any company involved that stays focused , doesn't goof too bad, and
is provides loyal to their customers can be a roaring success if only because there is so much work ahead.
Dell, with many new factories, can provide some of the computing power. 9% of it, roughly, and growing fast.
Somewhere in the Facilities department are plans to
overcome the limitations on production(G)
Summary:
We ain't seen nothing yet. 2000 is going to be an awesome year for Dell, setting the foundations for Phase 4,
or Warp 10. Make it so, Sulu ....

is it good to invest in start ups at the top of the bubble just before it bursts when so many have gone into being venture capitalists and some much money is being thrown at so many weak deals

Leigh,
Hi!!

RE: "We invest today in about 90 different companies. We have invested about $750 million, and over the course of next year we will invest at least that much again,' Dell told reporters.

"Our focus is on things that enable Internet infrastructure. We can't do everything, and this gives the ability to have a broad reach," Dell said, noting that his company receives about 1,000 business plans a week from capital seekers.

Thanks....and that Happy Meal is on Patrick....If DELL picks up some nice new technologies from any of these companies the street should be factoring this in...WEBM is a primary example...
:o)

Best, Kemble
