Jack - here's the difference between EP/EM and MC as far as my investments. Under the EP/EM team, I got snagged several times when they either gave selected guidance to a few close friends in the analyst community and not the rest of us, or when results were way different than predicted. After the Rosen transitional team took over, and later under MC, I have pretty much relied on the guidance of management as to where the company would go, even when that trend was down. They did not make any predictions about where stock price would go, but I made my own determinations about that based on what they said about the company. As a result, I pretty confidently sold calls that were either near the money or actually in the money for most of 2Q and 3Q 1999. As is well known here, I made a pretty radical departure from my previous practice of selling options and bought calls big time in late October and early November. That was a bet on management delivering on their growth and earnings promises which paid off big time, more than 10X in 5 weeks. Have shifted back to selling either calls or puts, currently have calls out. I realize that few follow this strategy, and I would not recommend that ANYONE follow my lead - I can afford to lose all of the money that I risk on option plays with no impact on my life, but not everyone is in that position. I am reluctant to hit the ignore button on either you or El both because of your long history on the thread and because there are insightful remarks among the many posts - but I would appreciate it if y'all would just reduce the frequency of those posts which simply restate your position on CPQ management and prospects to perhaps one or 2 a day. That way I can be sure that your position has not changed without having to sort through pages of stuff...
