Very much appreciate your sharing of the letter you sent!

Trying to think as simply as possible regarding a very complicated situation...some questions/comments become apparent...

1) Our government produces no money, but only exacts money/income from whatever we the taxpayers pay

2) Not many people/press are even talking about the cost of this legal battle to the taxpayer ....
So, in addition to paying a huge tax bill for the cost of this action, we the people could be at huge risk of depriving ourselves of future tax "income" if in fact the government is successful, even partially with this charge...Taxable income (if any)from shareholders, from service companies who supply to this industry, and from employees who might not be working if it were not for Microsoft, and the related companies that have created an entire new segment of employment for the world.

3) I wonder how many in our government, from the top down, have actually considered the consequences of having companies like Microsoft, or any others in a similar situation actually leave this country, and have their company headquarters off shore.....

And many of the posts tonight, including from the gentleman that posted #40317 below......(bold is my doing)...have been very much appreciated!

"This result is disappointing not only because of the amount of time that so many busy professionals, officials, and executives have devoted to the mediation, but also because the public interest would be served by avoiding further litigation, with its potential for unsettling a key industry in the global economy. I believed when I undertook this assignment that it was in the national interest that the case be settled, and I believe it even more strongly today." This is a very serious statement from Judge Richard
Posner which should make DOJ and States think twice when the
case goes to U.S. Court of Appeals where Richard Posner is
Chief Judge. What do you think?
