<<At this point, I'm confused about whether you are arguing that Michael made up the incident
.....or whether you are actually arguing against the issue itself, that of bathing with infants.>>

Sorry if my posts were not clear

I believe that the story was as posted ..fiction

I have no strong opinions one way or another as to the benefits or lack of for bathing with ones children as infants.... Maybe a good thing...Maybe a non event..

I have heard of all the studies about close physical contact and the like. Suffice to say most such studies have as a flaw that parents who give this close physical contact may by the very nature of this concern be better parents in other ways as the child is growing ...Psychological studies do not lend them selves to the scientific method IMO.

Much more important IMO is the parent creating an atmosphere of respect for a small child's opinions, ideas, and actions and taking the time to explain why altho they may be wrong they are worthy of consideration. The simple act of respect for a small child can go a long way toward creating a more secure adult IMO.

I think that Lorrie is extremely intuitive and although may have missed the mark sensed something wasn't quite right. Her gut feelings of concern for children forced her to respond...If you think that for one minute she wasn't aware of the hail storm of criticism she was in for you sadly underestimate her... I am always amazed by her courage in expressing her opinions on these boards ...no matter how inevitable the consequences.

Having said all of the above .I do believe that this seems to have taken on a life all it's own. For MC to have created [if so ] this story is really no big deal It's probably the way he would like to think of himself....

For me to post my concept that this was BS is equally no big deal.........Everyone can read his post for themselves and come to their own conclusion ...Surely no one gives a damn if I think MC piles it a bit high.

<<I did an informal poll of all my friends on and off line last week, and every one -- without exception-- had taken baths with their infants. >>

Male friends?... At the time described I did play the parenting role for this little girl over the years .....Trips to the Merry go round the swings and she burying me in the sand at the beach were regular activities.
Went a long way to scratching the parenting "itch" for me and giving her some sort of male figure in her early years.

But I never wanted to take a bath with her.......Let me clarify...I do not view it as necessarily some how connected with child abuse for a male to want to do this OK?.....Just that it never occurred to me... And I would be surprised if the majority of men did this with their children....Her mom bathed her ...I took her to the Merry Go round...I suppose it could have been the other way around but it wasn't....Seemed natural

It just means that the concept seems a bit unusual to me . Placed in the context of the discussion and the rest of the post lead me to believe that it was created for effect.....That's all
