We are getting booted around a bit this year. From reading the board, and PM's, I know that a lot of people are nervous. This is sure the wrong time to sell anything, IMO. I am riding this out. I have messed around with my portfolio too much this year.

If you have read Gilder's latest bit, you know my thinking. I am invested to catch exactly the trend he is talking about. It is going to hurt me a little short term, because some of these companies are very volatile, but I don't have a huge stake in any one of them, and, overall, I think they will keep me from getting behind a 7-11 counter in my dotage.

shamsaee,

Many of the elders on this thread, do use these tools due to the fact that they have been investing much longer and have seen it before.

I don't have the experience a lot of people do, but the reason I don't use those tools is because that's not how I want to use my time -- the hedging tools can be very time-consuming -- and ironically, because I have seen it before.

My portfolio was down 45% for the year in October 1998. As of the close of Friday it had grown about seven-fold since that low.

The last time I added a new company to my portfolio was exactly one year ago as of tomorrow. Anyone wanna guess which one? :)

There are lots and lots of ways to make money in the market.
