Mike,I guess what,I am looking for is to have a ltb&h approach with some sort of protection. My portfolio is(was) at a point, where I need to protect it to a certain extent.Still have not sold anything and agree with your previous post that gorilla's hold their value much better during severe market corrections.

Mike: I happen to agree with your approach.

There is only so much time and energy available to each of us.

And I am somewhat diminished now in the energy dept.

To me, the best use of those scare resources is choosing technologies well, then leaders within them. Then relax.

If I try a small position in a stock which is itself what I consider a "flyer" within a high growth area, I watch it carefully.

This to me is a better use of time and energy, and has proven to be highly rewarding, than hedges or defense mechanisms which are themselves difficult to use well.

But more power to those for whom options have appeal - but detailed discussion of options seems a bit of a fish out of water on this gorilla game thread IMO. (to mix animals and fish a bit).

My only experiment with them was with LEAPS and that was in no way defensive - it was because in late 1997 I saw Qualcomm's future as so bright I wanted to experiment with LEAPS Jan 2000 calls as a supplement to my already major Q investment. Glad I did.

But that was a special case, and Qualcomm is a special company IMO.

Best.
