Rinse, just a brief general response.

You seem to deal with the concrete. I deal with the concept.

There is a hell of a difference in that.

For instance, you say "Socialism is based on a flawed, romantic appraisal of the human animal."

And I believe the human animal is a dynamic, not a static, existence.

It could well be idealism versus pragmatism. It, nevertheless, causes our horns to clash.

Isn't it a fact that, if one were judged by his/her achievements alone, expectation of higher achievements would be unrealistic?

Socialism, altruism: Good.

Absence of them at this time in their pure sense: A basis for hope.

PS: I do believe your last sentence belies everything you are trying to say. I feel you said that these "good things" are for our everymanship. Possibly I misread this.
