Your memory of history is about as good as your predictions of Sun's share price. Netscape wanted OEMs and businesses to pay for use of the browser and, while it did seek to charge for any downloads, it ultimately didn't really care if consumers got it for free. MSFT boasted that the business model for Netscape depended upon sales of the browser to OEMs and corporations and that by distributing IE for free to everyone it was going to take away Netscape's "oxygen." MSFT succeeded.
