KIS, re: 1929, if i may, a little correction here: you are right, the big NY banks got together to save the market and it recovered from a big intra-day sell-off not unlike today's action. however, the bottom did not fall out the NEXT day. what followed were two slight up days, with remarkably little in terms of price swings, but extremely heavy trading volume. it was during those two days that the bankers got out of their positions. only on the third day after the big bounceback did the bottom really begin to fall out.
