The key cash index ended the latest fiscal year at 20337.32 on March 31 after finishing the 1999 trading year at 18934.34. Softbank and Hikari Tsushin both ended ask-only, Softbank at Y81,500 and Hikari Tsushin at Y63,800. The Nikkei OTC Average lost 122.21, or 5.5%, to end at 2092.30, dragged down by issues such as Yahoo Japan, which ended down its daily limit of Y7 million at Y48.3 million. The more established issues also ended the day weaker, led by Sony, down Y240 at 14,760; NEC, which lost Y170 to 2,930, and Fujitsu, which dipped Y80 to 3,250. NTT DoCoMo tumbled Y170,000 to 4.07 million. "The correction phase for issues like Sony and NTT DoCoMo will likely be relatively short," said Hidenori Karaki, general manager of the stock division at Tokyo-Mitsubishi Personal Securities, who cited the companies' records of posting profits.
