Now yer taukkin. Tax the rich so that they are at an equal level with the have nots. That will stop them from all this wild and irresponsible consumer spending. Use the tax money to put in a Govt savings account since that has always worked so well with the SSI model. Then when ever any citizen needs something the State can distribute the savings according to need on an equal basis. Say...isn't that Socialism?

<<Then we can move on to a more intractable problem; how are we going to get Americans to save more? Hmm. How about a new agency to educate them on how imprortant it is and neat ways to do it. For the have nots, we could just put money in a savings account for them and call it saving.>>

Now damnitall Dave, I know savings. I save more than I spend .... outside of taxes. How to save more? Lower taxes. Bank, CD, brokerage interest TAX FREE. But some idiot in the White House wants to make my savings someone else's savings plan.
