George, I am never "gabby"! LOL!

On Altruism and Generosity: Is there a difference between Bill Gates giving several hundred million to a worthy cause and me sharing my Whopper with a Whopperless chap, or kid, standing outside the Burger King?

Of course, there is a difference! However, both are instances of generosity unless you are yourself literally starving, in which case it is altruism and not at all necessarily a good thing. I also wish that we saw more generosity among people, even as I am overjoyed at the amount that I do see.

I am somewhat surprised that my brief, virtually thoughtless, glossing over of a haughty post from Terry turned into so much seriousness.

Better that we talk seriously about such issues than revert to some of the nonsense that this thread has undergone at times. IMO, of course.

On Libertarianism: I am not condemning it for greed. It is the heartlessness of its insistence on DOING (see Rinse) as a prerequisite for reasonable continuation of life in this society.

I don't know that I'd agree with you on this characterization of libertarianism (with a lower case "l"). However, I think that the reason for the emphasis on
deeds is that they are more measurable than simply being. The value of a contemplative is not really measurable in worldly terms.
