About a year ago, I watched Fran Leibowitz on C-SPAN, at the 92nd Street YMHA, complaining about cleaning up Times Square, because cities were supposed to be for the deviant and eccentric, and too much wholesomeness would destroy the soul of New York. One would have thought that they had built a new Disneyworld there, instead of a modest store, and that they were chasing off dealers in the avant- garde, instead of sleaze parlors........
