Dale, in my opinion the ZixMail single key repository system is great for "consumer" type users or something like a professional law office where each partner is a trusted representative of the firm. But this model fails in the corporate environment where the company management system requires monitoring of employee email. Only company-centric encryption systems can meet this need.

For example, if I send out a Zixmail from within my company to you, it would be encoded with your public key and can only be decrypted with YOUR private key. My company outgoing email server can grab the message but can not decrypt it without busting YOUR key which is an invasion of a non-employee privacy and can only be done by court order under "reasonable cause."

In my opinion, most companies will opt for company centrally managed systems so they can make sure the staff is not encrypting and emailing company secrets.

Just my opinion from testing ZixMail and maybe they have options I don't know about. I could imagine a scheme that required an un-encrypted version of the ZixMail be stored in a company archive. Rick, feel free to jump in and defend Zixmail.
