The problem stems from social vs. fiscal conservatives. In the end fiscal conservatism will win, it always does. You can't hold back the forces of social change. You can take it gradually, or in violent spurts (like social earthquakes). Name one domestic social issue that social conservatives have ever "won"? Slavery? Suffrage? Prohibition? Drug War? Creationist 'Science'? Prayer in School? Gun laws? Abortion? Racism? Sexism? Gay bashing? etc etc etc. Lost 'em all. Thank God. Wasting money is never in vogue. Today's liberalism is tomorrow's conservatism.
