<<...then you must surely have encountered people who did not nod off into oblivion, ruin lives, or do anything except live their lives productively.>> I most certainly do. In fact, except for the dead ones, I figure everybody has the opportunity to move on from where ever they are and live their lives productively.

<<If you found the reference to the movie offensive or belittling, I apologize...>> I definitely did and it hurt. The kids were wrong about that sticks and stones jazz. I believe you are being sincere. Thank you for apologizing.

<<I do not believe that the world has gone to hell...>> Fine, that's your belief and I do not know otherwise. In fact, I believe the world is exactly as it should be, and always has been. There is no lack of lessons to be learned and struggles to contend with and life to be lived. I wouldn't have it any other way. When I perceive something bad in the world, I also feel a responsibility to do something about it even if it is only ranting on this thread. When I believe people are being treated unjustly I beleive I should stand against that injustice. You obviously agree since you see any kind of prohibition as an injustice. I saw an interview with Bobby Kennedy on tv last night. He was quoting some leader he had studied. The message was that we should to do everything we can to lessen the struggle for children. I like that idea.
