minnow68:

Great post...Kind of puts it all in perspective! Looks like AMD is only in the preliminary "cath-up" phase...Interesting times, to be sure!

Within six months we will have 1) high revs 2) high profits 3) high QOQ% 4) very low eps 5) increased market share 6) more respect 7) great prospects in FLASH 8) more money for R&D to stay competitive 9) high growth rate ...

Six months is not far away. And in exactly six months we will have 4 consecutive quarters of all of the above. How can this not be a $40-50 Billion company then?

If AMD made $65 (?) million in profits in one quarter last year and in FIRST QUARTER will beat that, imagine how much profit AMD will have year 2000!

Dave

minnow68, re: < AMD fair price It breaks my heart every time I read one of these posts. I've seen long time AMD holders selling out starting at 28 and continuing ever since. >

Good post. I think most of the profit taking was based on previous experience with AMD. This time around, the company fundamentals are different and I believe, we just started witnessing a different trading pattern take hold in the past few days.

I took the liberty of adding links to your post and another great post from Pravin, on epscontest.com for everybody to see.

Minnow:
I hope AMD does reach $750/share. I'll pick some back up on the way if I feel that AMD can continue to grow at 100%/year pace...I'll admit there is a good chance of this happening for another couple of quarters. AMD right now is enjoying tremendous growth, thanks to the superior Athlon core and Intel's fumblings. But Intel isn't going to sit still. And beyond this year, AMD's prospects in the CPU business is somewhat uncertain.
The biggest threat coming up is the Willamette which could seriously hamper AMD's growth next year. By early 2001, Intel's low-end CPU may be a "Willaron" 1 Ghz CPU, and the high-end a 1.8Ghz Pentium IV Pro. If megahertz sells, then the Athlon may not be able to keep up in Mhz (thus sales). Clock for clock, the Athlon may be faster, but it'll need Mhz speed to compete. We've already seen that everyone prefers faster Mhz vs. faster (more efficient) performance, illustrated by the lack of market support for the K6-3 CPU, which was proven to be superior to the competition in every way except Mhz.
Intel is playing on this by introducing a possibly less-efficient CPU design, with a lot of headroom for Mhz ramping. Their marketing guys are probably right-on in suggesting this move.
Anyway, I'll be picking up AMD again sometime in the near future...it might be at a higher price than at which I just sold, but I won't complain, as long as I make a profit :-).

Re: AMD fair price

Good! now we've established a range. Niceguy767 is a pessimist expecting only $100 or so by year end. I am neutral expecting $280 by year end. Mike is somewhat optimistic, expecting $700 by year end.
